One of the most scarce resources in the world... TIME!
Fresh from the Easter break, I was reminded of the importance, and scarcity, of one thing.
Time.
The older I get, the less time I seem to have; Running a business (and working IN it), football coaching (my main hobby now that I can't play anymore), family time... I wish I had more to devote to each area.
But, I had a realisation.
I DO have enough time. 24hrs in a day is a LOT.
I just need to use it more efficiently.
BE REALISTIC
Now.... I'm not going to advocate getting up at 5am and going to bed at 9pm like a lot of these "morning routine" guides. That may work well for some (GREAT if it does for you!), but for me.... that doesn't work.
Zac (our 3 year old) is awake most nights and up early. Getting less sleep than I do now isn't just unfeasible, it'd be inhumane! 🤣
So, how to use the time I have now more efficiently?
Here's what I came up with for work:
- Outsource smaller, less urgent tasks - the ones that eat into "deep work" time.
- Perform particular tasks at a particular time. For example, when looking after Zac between 6-8am in our living room, can I check/write emails, design artwork etc on my laptop when I can't work on audio in the studio?
- Trust our team to work on complete projects. It'seasy to over micro-manage as LMM has always been my baby, but as we grow it's important that I "let go" a little. Our team are brilliant - I must let them show it.
I applied the same principles for my hobby;
- Lean on other coaches/managers at our football club to help with planning training sessions.
- Perform particular tasks at a particular time; block planning training content in the evenings when my wife is at work and Zac is asleep.
And as a result of the above, I have more time to devote to family life without constantly being on my emails on my phone or laptop.
More present, more of the time.
The advice here is simple - Be efficient and smart with your time.
